Day Three:          Morning breakfast at the hotel and have your picnic lunch ready before heading to the mountain base for a short briefing by the ranger guides. Later, the morning hike to the peaks of the Mgahinga Volcanoes. The word gahinga is the local term for a heap of stones in the Kifumbira and Rwandan language and refers to the shape of this volcano. The climb this day will take about 6 hours from the starting point. Hiking will be through the reclaimed farmland zone and the Bamboo zone where you could spot the golden monkeys or Cape buffalo tracks. AT the top of Mount Gahinga volcano, is an extinct Lake area that has turned into a swamp where our walk ends at about 3474 metres above sea level. After our picnic lunch, we head back to base and proceed for dinner and overnight at the Travelers Rest Hotel Kisoro.

Day Four:             The ascent to the rugged peaks of Mount Sabyinyo starts in the morning through a trail in one of the gorges close to the Congo border. The hike of a total of 8 hours is through the thick montane forests and patches of Bamboo sections, which end in marshy swamp sections as you proceed towards the peaks. You will be seeing more of the mountain vegetation species like the Giant lobelia as you scale the heights of the “Old Man’s Teeth” at an altitude of 3645 metres above sea level. A picnic lunch meal is served at the top of the Volcano with views of the volcanoes into the Congo, as well as most of Rwanda if accessed on a non misty day. Later, descend to base, arriving late in the evening for dinner and overnight at Travellers Rest.

Day Five:              The final ascent to the highest Volcano of Mount Muhabura which refers to the word “guide” in the local dialect. In the olden days without GPS or basic map reading means, migrant workers would be able to find their way back home by following the towering mount Muhabura. We have an early breakfast and begin the steep descent across the Base of the Volcano, hiking through sections of Bamboo forests. Along the trek, you will be taking frequent stops to acclimatize to minimize the effects of altitude sickness. You will hike through sections of heath and rocky meadow all the way into the clouds in very chilly conditions. At the top of the Volcano which is about 4127 meters above sea level, near an alpine Crater Lake you will have views of the other Volcanoes wall the way into the Congo and Rwanda. After a picnic lunch at the top of the Mountain, the arduous descent begins through the same trail supported by your walking sticks. Your Volcano hike ends at the base of the mountain when you meet your driver guide who will transfer you to the Overnight hotel in Kisoro . Dinner and overnight at the Travellers Rest.

There will be some stops along the way to take pictures before heading to your overnight accommodations at the Gorilla’s Resort Camp.

Day seven:          Breakfast at your accommodation and armed with your walking sticks, start the morning gorilla trek hike in the Mountains to find the family of mountain gorillas. Following a trail left by gorillas which includes dung, hairs, and the spoor, we soon come face to face with these 260kilo Apes! feeding in the glades of the impenetrable forests of Uganda. An hour of gorilla viewing is allowed before the trekking party is led to a bush picnic lunch on the way back to camp where you will have your dinner and overnight.
