Uganda and Rwanda Gorilla Safari

UGANDA AND RWANDA COMBINED GORILLA SAFARI – STARTS AND ENDS IN RWANDA

 

Day one:
Morning arrival flight into Kigali International Airport.  You are met on arrival and transferred a short distance to the Kigali Serena Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. The evening is spent relaxing at the Kigali Hotel enjoying the The Sokoni Cafe/bar or relaxing by the Swimming pool. Alternatively, you may spend time in the Hotel gardens or soothed by the spa attendantas at the Maisha Health Club before overnight. The Kigali Hotel is on a Bed and breakfast basis

 

Day Two: 
The morning, after breakfast. We will embark on a visit to the tour of the Kigali genocide memorial where remains of the victims of the genocide memorial are preserved in the Museum, where survivors give a harrowing tales of how their families were massacred in the 100days of genocide in 1994. Later, travel across the border and proceed to Uganda where the evening will be spent on Lake Bunyonyi for a dugout canoe ride to the punishment Islands. It is at these asylums that unmarried pregnant girls would be abandoned as as means of enforcing manners in the  traditional setting of the bachiga tribal culture. Meals and overnight at the Arcadia Cottages. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day Three:
The morning, have a leisurely breakfast and drive through the Mountains and misty forests into the Impenetrable Bwindi Forest arriving for lunch at your trekking base. After freshening up, you may opt to have a self guided walk around the River Munyaga as long as the gorillas are not in the vicinity. You may spot some colorful birds of the forest that are mostly seen along the open patches of the forest near the river. Most common of these birds is the Paradise fly catcher, snowy headed robin chat and the mackinon’s shrike. You may also hear the noisy chimpanzees which can be heard vocalizing across the valley or the black and white colubus. Return in the evening for dinner and overnight at the Gorilla’s Resort Camp Bwindi. All meals included.

 

Day Four:
Day of gorilla trekking starts with a wake up call and breakfast before attending a gorilla safari brief. The half day is spent with the gorilla guides and trackers who will be trekking through the forest for the Mountain Gorillas. The gorillas will be located and the viewing is only allowed for approximately one hour. After the gorilla safari, the team returns to camp after a bush picnic lunch for dinner and overnight at the Gorilla’s Resort. Meapl plan: breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.

 

Day Five:
Morning breakfast before taking a second gorilla trek. This day, the gorilla trek safari will be to a different gorilla group to maximize the gorilla viewing experience. Once the gorillas are found, an hour will be allotted to enjoy the family of these near tame giants. Please maintain a distance of about 10 metres from the gorillas and avoid contact, even when the cuddly, playful and joy to watch juveniles tempt you with play. Have your packed meals and drinks in the forest, at a safe distance, and have your gorilla guide answer all the questions you may have about gorilla conservation. Later, the team of all the gorilla trekking crew of 8 board your respective vehicles to return to your accommodations for a refreshing dip in the tub or sitting by the camp fire to exchange your trekking experiences of the day. Dinner and overnight at the Gorilla’s Resort. Breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner.

 

Day Six:
Morning breakfast and pick up your gorilla trekking certificates before embarking on the return trip to Rwanda. Your picnic lunch will be had overlooking the Volcanoes or Uganda, Rwanda and the Congo DRC, before crossing to the Rwanda border for customs and immigration formalities.  Later, head back to Kigali on  the snaking road through the evergreen mountains and farmlands before arriving for a late check in at the Kigali Serena for overnight. Meals provided this day include; breakfast and lunch.

 

Day Seven:
With some good memories of your Uganda and Rwanda gorilla safari, sadly, our tour ends with a short drive to the airport at Kigali to check in into your departure flight out of Africa.
