Gorilla Watching in Uganda 3 Days

 

Day 1 – Kampala – Bwindi.

Morning will be picked in Kampala at Hotel  around 7.00 am and proceed to the south western part of the country. Break for lunch on the way and proceed to Bwindi National Park the home of Mountain Gorillas. It is estimated half of the world’s surviving population of mountain gorillas –300 live within these boundaries shared by Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. The drive is long but enjoyable. Proceed south to Buhoma viewing the terraced hills of Kigezi Highlands once known as Switzerland of Africa.  Arrival at Buhoma will be in the evening. You will then settle in at Lodge which is near the park offices location. Dinner and overnight as you prepare for the tomorrow’s event!

 

Day 2   Gorilla trekking

Morning after breakfast with packed lunch, you will be guided to the starting point for briefing. You will be allocated guides to track gorillas with, and then will be off to begin your adventure. A briefing from your local guide and then it’s off! The time taken and the terrain varies (1- 8 hours) this depends on the movement of these gentle giants.  gorilla tour The thrill of meeting face to face takes away the pain of some times long and arduous trek.  Each encounter is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in delightfully playful manner.

 

You will need to bring long pants, sturdy hiking or tennis shoes to help you hiking  steep and slippery slopes, long sleeved shirts and blouses to protect your bodies from thorns and itching nettles. gorilla safari  It being a rain forest, you may not rule out the occasional shower on the gorilla trek. It is because of this that you are required to carry a light weight poncho, just in case it rains. You may also need to carry a waterproof rack sac for your camera as well as safe keeping for bug spray and sunscreen.

 

Day 3

Morning breakfast at the lodge and drive through the banana plantain farms on the way to Mbarara . After a picnic lunch, proceed to Kampala, after a brief stopover at the Uganda Equator for pictures. The gorilla trip ends either in Kampala, or at the Entebbe airport in the late evening following an all day drive from Bwindi.

 

Please note: There is an option of taking a one hour flight to and from the gorilla sanctuary. Please feel free to inquire about this option of a flying gorilla tour.

 

Prices are based on the level of accommodation of choice, and the group size.
