6 Days Gorillas in Rwanda and Queen Elizabeth Uganda Safari from Kigali


Day one:              Arrive at the Kigali International airport and transfer to the nearby border crossing to the Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight at the Lake Bunyonyi Bird Nest Lodge.


Day two:              After a morning breakfast at the Hotel, drive through the Kigezi Mountainous region and proceed through the tea estates and the banana growing farms of Buhweju before approaching Queen Elizabeth National park through the rift valley. Arrive for a mid afternoon safari along the Kazinga channel tracks where you may catch glimpse of the warthogs, Giant forest hog, Bush buck and Cape buffalo. Proceed to the Mweya Safari Lodge to have lunch and an afternoon dip in the swimming pool. Later, in the evening, have a sunset game drive in the park where you will be finding Elephants at the watering hole on Lake Edward. Dinner and overnight at the Mweya Safari Lodge.


Day three:           Early breakfast and a morning wildlife viewing safari on the tracks of Kasenyi and the Craters of Lake Nyamunuka. Drive through the plains of the Uganda Kobs and with luck, see the lions hunting for Uganda Kob or Cape buffalo. Hyenas, Deffassa water buck, elephant and birds of prey will be seen on the game drive. You may also see the leopard and the flamingos on the crater lakes, depending on the season of travel. The mid afternoon will be spent on the lodge viewing the Hippos and Elephants that are grazing close to the Kazinga or Lake Edward banks. In the afternoon, a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel will be sailing a few meters away from hordes of elephant, Hippo, Nile crocodile, Uganda Kob, monitor lizard and the Giant forest hogs. Birds like the Pink Backed Pelicans, White Pelicans, Greater cormorants, African Darter and Black Crake can be seen aboard the boat launch. You may also see the local fishermen casting their nets on the return trip back to your lodge.


Day Four:             Early morning departure for the Ishasha plains through the Village of Kazinga and the forest margins of the Karinzu and Maramagambo where you may spot the red-tailed monkeys, Baboons on the road and the Black and White colubus monkeys. The Elephant bulls can be seen by the roadside browsing off the scattered acacia trees. Large herds of cape buffalo and also seen on the savannah grasslands while the tree climbing lions can be seen along the main road in fig trees. After lunch in Kisoro, transfer to the town of Musanze and drive to the base of the Volcanoes arriving late evening for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.


Day Five:              Morning breakfast and a morning gorilla trekking expedition to the Rwanda’s Volcanoes gorilla park. The guides will lead the trekking party into the impenetrable forest to find the mountain gorilla family. One hour of viewing the gorillas in the bamboo forests ends with a return to the lodge and departure to Kigali on a 2 hour road transit arriving for dinner and overnight in Kigali. Night stay at the Kigali Serena.


Day Six:                                Morning breakfast and transfer to the airport for departure.
